NetNewsWire for Mac, dating back to 2002, was once said to be the most popular RSS reader on any platform. In the native-app category, different RSS readers have attained prominence over the years. The Web-based Google Reader used to dominate on the Web, but it was discontinued in 2013, setting off a scramble to fill its very big shoes (see “ The State of Google Reader Replacements,” 27 June 2013). Newsreaders exist as both Web and native apps. New content then flows into the app automatically. Once a site offers an RSS feed, users can subscribe to it with any newsreader. This was possible thanks to RSS, a standardized system for formatting site content in such a way that special “newsreader” apps can parse out each article separately and display it in a custom interface. Using specialized software, I could subscribe to my favorite sites’ “feeds,” and thereafter get the latest news from all those sites in a single and easy-to-scan stream. So, I began consolidating updates from my favorite sites in a centralized location for more efficient perusal. The Reader feature is like the full text that you find in other readers. This is something that you generally must pay for or least buy an in-app purchases in other Rss readers. But they offer something called the Reader feature. One of the biggest sellers for me is that not only is it free. You really can access everything on and from the main page. It is simple without a lot of settings or places to find things. Being completely free and has zero ads and no in-app purchases should be an indicator or least raise your eye browse. This is an open source program which I am always a huge fan of software that are open sourced. As various places have rotor options that clearly shows me that this was on purpose. You can really tell that accessibility was put into this. I was truly amazed how accessible this app was right out of the box on its opening day. NetNewsWire is now my go to RSS Reader of choice on the iOS.
As I have been a long-time user and a fan of the Lire and Newsify that I wasn’t quite sure if it would have enough for me to pull away of something, I’ve used every day for years. When I first heard that it was coming to the iOS. Many Mac users may have heard of the NetNewsWire as this has been around for a long time on the platform.
